There were 4,804K boardings in July 2018 compared to 4,661K in July 2017, an increase of 143K boardings (or 3 percent) on local bus service. A favorable calendar mix of one more weekday and one fewer Saturday relative to the previous year contributed to ridership gain.
Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday
Average daily ridership increased on Weekday, Saturday, and Sunday, in July 2018 compared to July 2017. Average Weekday ridership increased by 4K boardings (or 3 percent), average Saturday ridership increased by 3K boardings (or 3 percent) and average Sunday ridership increased by approximately 2K (or 2 percent), in July 2018 compared to July 2017.
Light Rail
Monthly Total
There were 1,539K boardings on all three light rail lines in July 2018 compared to 1,503K boardings in July 2017, an increase of 36K boardings (or 2 percent). Red line ridership decreased by less than 1 percent, Green line ridership increased by 16 percent, and Purple line ridership increased by 14 percent in July 2018 compared to July 2017. The main factors for the increased ridership were the favorable calendar mix and the development of new affordable housing apartments near the Coffee Plant station.

Average Weekday ridership on the Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by more than 1.5K boardings (or 3 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 18 percent) and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 16 percent) respectively in July 2018 compared to July 2017. Average Saturday ridership on Red line increased by less than 1K boardings (less than 1%) while average Saturday ridership on the Green and Purple lines increased by less than 1K boardings (or 24 percent) and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 21 percent) respectively in July 2018 compared to July 2017. Average Sunday ridership on Red line increased by 1K (or 7 percent) while average Sunday ridership on the Green increased by less than 1K boardings (or 18 percent) and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 11 percent) in July 2018 compared to July 2017 respectively.
