Common Questions

Getting Started

No, you don't need to set up an account to use the app.

However, you'll need to create an account if you want to set up a virtual RideMETRO Fare Card, pay your fare, check your rewards and more.

You can set up an account by opening the app and tapping on the "Fares" tab at the bottom of your screen. The next screen will prompt you to "Log In to Your Account" or "Create an Account."

Just create a virtual RideMETRO Fare Card inside the app and add at least $3 to get started.

A QR code will then appear in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.

Scan the QR code approximately six inches below the validator found on METRORail platforms and onboard METRO vehicles.

Once you've created an account and logged in, select the "Fares" tab at the bottom of your screen. You’ll be prompted to create a free virtual RideMETRO Fare Card or convert an existing physical RideMETRO Fare Card to a virtual one.

Once you've converted a physical card, it can no longer be used.

Trip Planning

From the app’s home screen, tap the trip planning icon in the upper right corner (pictured below).

Accessibility

Yes. The app’s unique My Stop Technology connects with thousands of beacons in the METRO service area to deliver notifications or pulse vibrations when you’re approaching your:

  • Starting bus stop or rail platform
  • Transfer point (if applicable)
  • Destination bus stop or rail platform

Just plan your trip and watch or listen to your phone to monitor your progress.

You can turn on notifications for the nearest stop by selecting your stop and tapping the green bell icon (pictured below).

Your phone will vibrate if you have pulse notification enabled, or it will send you onscreen notifications as you approach the stop or platform.

To report issues, tap the "More" tab at the bottom of the screen and then select "Feedback About this App."

For emergencies, always call 911.

Other

Yes, the app requires an internet connection to provide real-time features like bus and train tracking, estimated arrival times, trip planning and service alerts.

It’s stored on a securely encrypted server hosted by the financial clearing house. METRO has no access to that information.

Locate nearby fare card retailers

Locations where you can obtain or reload a RideMETRO Fare Card will appear on the map as dark blue pin icons (pictured below). Tap the icon to view details about the retail location.

See current service alerts

If there’s a service alert for a specific route that you’ve selected, you’ll see a red triangle with an exclamation point (pictured below) on the map. Tap the icon to view details about the alert and how it may affect your trip.

Track your bus or train

By allowing the app to access your location, you’ll be able to see:

  • Scheduled arrival times for nearby trains

5. PROPRIETARY RIGHTS. The RideMETRO app and any other METRO services are protected by U.S. and international copyright, trademark and other laws, and you acknowledge that these rights are valid and enforceable. You expressly acknowledge and agree that METRO transfers no ownership or intellectual property interest or title in and to the RideMETRO app to you or anyone else. 7. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. You expressly absolve and release METRO from any claim of harm resulting from a cause beyond METRO’s control, including, but not limited to, failure of electronic or mechanical equipment or communication lines, telephone or other connection problems, computer or mobile viruses, unauthorized access, theft, operator errors, severe weather, earthquakes, or natural disasters, strikes, or other labor problems, wars, or governmental restrictions. Moreover, in no event shall METRO be liable for any indirect, punitive, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in any way connected with the use of the RideMETRO app, with the delay or inability to use the RideMETRO app, or for any information services, programs, products, and materials available through the RideMETRO app, whether based in contract, tort, strict liability, or otherwise, even if METRO has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Notwithstanding the foregoing, total liability of METRO for any reason whatsoever related to use of the RideMETRO app shall not exceed the total amount paid by you to METRO in connection with the subject matter of the particular dispute. THE LIMITATIONS OF DAMAGES SET FORTH IN THIS SECTION ARE FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS OF THE BASIS OF THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN METRO AND YOU.

8. INDEMNIFICATION. You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless METRO and its affiliates and all of their respective employees, agents, directors, officers, successors, and assigns from and against any and all claims, proceedings, damages, injuries, liabilities, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees and litigation expenses) relating to or arising from (i) your breach of these Terms; (ii) any allegation that any materials you submit to us or transmit to the RideMETRO app infringe or otherwise violate the copyright, trademark, trade secret, or any other intellectual property rights of a third party; and/or (iii) your activities in connection with the RideMETRO app.

9. TERMINATION. These Terms take effect the moment you use the RideMETRO app and are effective until terminated in accordance with this Section.

METRO reserves the right to immediately terminate these Terms, and/or your access to and use of the RideMETRO app or any portion thereof, at any time and for any reason, with or without cause. Upon termination of these Terms, your right to use the RideMETRO app shall immediately cease. You agree that any termination of your access to or use of the RideMETRO app may be affected without prior notice, and that METRO may immediately deactivate or delete your account, and all related information and files associated with it, and/or bar any further access to such information or files. You agree that METRO shall not be liable to you or any third party for any termination of your access to the RideMETRO app or to any such information or files and shall not be required to make such information or files available to you after any such termination.

Certain Terms will survive termination, as identified in Section 19 (Survival). Upon termination, you must destroy all copies of any aspect of the RideMETRO app in your possession.

10. PRIVACY. You understand, acknowledge, and agree that the operation of certain programs, services, tools, materials, or information of the RideMETRO app requires the submission, use, and dissemination of personal information. 14. WAIVER. The failure of METRO to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not operate as a waiver of such right or provision. Any waiver of this Agreement by METRO must be in writing and signed by an authorized representative of METRO.
