Adopt-a-Stop / Adopt-a-Shelter

We all want to live, work and play in beautiful, vibrant, safe neighborhoods.

METRO bus shelters provide riders with a safe, pleasant and comfortable place to rest while waiting for the bus. With thousands of bus stops across the Houston region, maintaining each location is challenging.

By adopting a bus stop or passenger shelter in your community, you can help keep your neighborhood clean and reduce the chance of criminal activity and vandalism.

About the Program

A joint effort between our Public Affairs department and community volunteers, we encourage individuals, civic groups and local businesses to get involved.

Program participants volunteer to pick up litter in the area between METRO’s designated trash collection days, and have the option to make general improvements to the grounds around the stop or shelter. Trash bags are provided at a bus stop or shelter at the request of the individual sponsor or organization.

In addition to improving the quality of life in your community, Adopt-a-Stop/Adopt-a-Shelter Partners receive:

  • Six (6) FREE round-trip transit passes per month
  • Adopt-a-Stop sign recognition sign affixed to the bus stop pole (optional)
  • Official “Adoption Certificate” signed by METRO’s President & CEO and Chief of Police
  • Opportunity to improve the aesthetic appeal of your community
