There were 4,878K boarding in December 2019 compared to approximately 4,680K in December 2018, an increase of approximately 199K boardings (or 4 percent) on local bus service. A positive calendar mix of one more weekday and one fewer Saturday relative to the previous year contributed to the ridership increase.
Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday
Average daily ridership decreased on Weekday but increased on Saturday and Sunday. Weekday average daily ridership decreased by less than 1K boardings (or less than 1 percent), Saturday average daily ridership increased by 2K boardings (or 2 percent) and Sunday average daily ridership increased by approximately 8K (or 8 percent) in December 2019 compared to December 2018.
Light Rail
Monthly Total
There were 1,370K boardings on all three light rail lines and 13K boardings on bus bridges in December 2019 compared to 1,337K boardings on all three light rail lines and zero boardings on bus bridges in December 2018, an increase of 46K boardings (or 4 percent). Red line ridership increased by 2 percent, Green line ridership increased by 6 percent, and Purple line ridership increased by 2 percent in December 2019 compared to December 2018. The positive calendar mix contributed to the ridership increase.

Average Weekday ridership on the Red, Green, and Purple lines increased by less than 1K boardings (or less than 1 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 3 percent) and decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 2 percent) respectively in December 2019 compared to December 2018. Average Saturday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 2 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 8 percent), and decreased by less than 1K boardings (or 3 percent) respectively in December 2019 compared to December 2018. Average Sunday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by less than 1K (or 2 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 14 percent), and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 2 percent) respectively in December 2019 compared to December 2018.
