There were 4,909K boarding in January 2019 comparted to 4,503K in January 2018, an increase of 406K boardings (or 9 percent) on local bus service. There was no change in calendar mix in January 2019 relative to January 2018. The primary factor contributing to the ridership increase was and ice storm which occurred between Tuesday, January 16 and Thursday, January 18, 2018 which affected local and park & ride service. The most significant impact occurred on Wednesday, January 17, 2019 when there was limited local service and no park & ride service. As a result of improved weather, a ridership increase would be expected.
Average Daily Ridership: Weekday / Saturday / Sunday
Average daily ridership increased on Weekday, Saturday and Sunday in January 2019 compared to January 2018. Average Weekday ridership increased by 8K boardings (or 5 percent), average Saturday ridership increased by 2K boardings (or 2 percent) and average Sunday ridership increased by 4K (or 5 percent), in January 2019 compared to January 2018.
Light Rail
Monthly Total
There were 1,473K boardings on all three light rail lines in January 2019 compared to 1,366K boardings in January 2018, an increase of 107K boardings (or 8 percent). Red line ridership increased by 6 percent, Green line ridership increased by 17 percent, and Purple line ridership increased by 15 percent in January 2019 compared to January 2018. The primary factor contributing to the increase was improved weather.

Average Weekday ridership on the Red, Green, and Purple lines increased by more than 1K boardings (or 3 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 8 percent) and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 11 percent) respectively in January 2019 compared to January 2018. Average Saturday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines decreased by more than 2K boardings (or 10 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 5 percent), and increased by less than 1K boardings or (or 17 percent) respectively in January 2019 compared to January 2018. Average Sunday ridership on Red, Green, and Purple lines increased by more than 1K (or 7 percent), increased by less than 1K boardings (or 11 percent), and increased by less than 1K boardings (or 14 percent) respectively in January 2019 compared to January 2018 respectively.
