Common Questions

Getting Started

No, you don't need to set up an account to use the app.

However, you'll need to create an account if you want to set up a virtual RideMETRO Fare Card, pay your fare, check your rewards and more.

You can set up an account by opening the app and tapping on the "Fares" tab at the bottom of your screen. The next screen will prompt you to "Log In to Your Account" or "Create an Account."

Just create a virtual RideMETRO Fare Card inside the app and add at least $3 to get started.

A QR code will then appear in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.

Scan the QR code approximately six inches below the validator found on METRORail platforms and onboard METRO vehicles.

Once you've created an account and logged in, select the "Fares" tab at the bottom of your screen. You’ll be prompted to create a free virtual RideMETRO Fare Card or convert an existing physical RideMETRO Fare Card to a virtual one.

Once you've converted a physical card, it can no longer be used.

Accessibility

Yes. The app’s unique My Stop Technology connects with thousands of beacons in the METRO service area to deliver notifications or pulse vibrations when you’re approaching your:

  • Starting bus stop or rail platform
  • Transfer point (if applicable)
  • Destination bus stop or rail platform

Just plan your trip and watch or listen to your phone to monitor your progress.

You can turn on notifications for the nearest stop by selecting your stop and tapping the green bell icon (pictured below).

Your phone will vibrate if you have pulse notification enabled, or it will send you onscreen notifications as you approach the stop or platform.

To report issues, tap the "More" tab at the bottom of the screen and then select "Feedback About this App."

For emergencies, always call 911.

Other

Yes, the app requires an internet connection to provide real-time features like bus and train tracking, estimated arrival times, trip planning and service alerts.

It’s stored on a securely encrypted server hosted by the financial clearing house. METRO has no access to that information.

Locate nearby fare card retailers

Locations where you can obtain or reload a RideMETRO Fare Card will appear on the map as dark blue pin icons (pictured below). Tap the icon to view details about the retail location.
