Director of Board Support
“I make sure that our transit policymakers and members of the public receive all relevant information and materials for the Agency’s public meetings, in order to have an effective and efficient public meeting.”
— Rosa Diaz-Hernandez
Rosa Diaz-Hernandez practically grew up at Houston METRO. She started as a data entry clerk right out of high school, working at METRO during the day so she could attend classes at night.
Fast forward to the present. Diaz-Hernandez’s kids travel from school to their activities via METRO, then rendezvous with mom at the end of the day to pick up the family car and ride home together. A second generation is making the most of Houston’s opportunities for education, sports, cultural enrichment, and entertainment, thanks to the METRO transit system.
Diaz-Hernandez’s career has spanned 19 years and three departments. There’s not much that she has not observed, which makes her uniquely qualified for the position she holds now.
The nine members of METRO’s board of directors are the ultimate decision makers about routes, expansions, improvements, budgets, innovations, and construction. They rely on the director of Board Support to make sure that the information and input from more than a dozen METRO departments, as well as individual METRO riders, is presented to them in a timely fashion. Diaz-Hernandez is also in charge of inviting members of the public to attend board and committee meetings, either in person or via streaming video. She hopes that everyone will join the conversation about Houston’s ever-evolving public transportation needs.
