Alva I. Treviño

Executive Vice President, Special Projects

“It’s amazing how you see your city if you let someone else do the driving. Take a bus and really take in our beautiful city.”
— Alva Treviño

Alva Treviño started at METRO as a litigator in 1997. She learned the business from the ground up, ultimately serving as general counsel. In 2017, she was promoted to her current role - advising the president and CEO on how to implement METRO’s goals regarding special projects related to operations and policy. METRO is rapidly innovating - and initiatives present challenges and questions on which Trevino is well qualified to advise.

“I gained so much experience in the field of public law,” says Treviño. “I have trial experience and I have  learned so much from other METRO personnel - everyone from the bus operators to the engineers and executive staff. They all contribute in their own way to providing the public with better service.”

Like so many people at METRO, Treviño is personally invested in helping Houston keep pace with a growing population, a growing economy, and a new set of public expectations. “I see METRO evolving to meet the needs of a changing community by embracing emerging technologies. METRO will be the first choice of transportation for the new generation of Houstonians,” says Treviño.

Treviño—and all employees at METRO - have their work cut out for them. But Treviño is not intimidated. “As a first-generation college graduate from an American immigrant family, I learned that anything worth achieving requires hard work and dedication,” she says.

Raised in McAllen, Texas, and now a long-time Houston resident, Treviño sees the city through the eyes of an artist. Her favorite view of Houston? “The downtown skyline as seen from the Burnett Station Bridge. Reds and brilliant golds reflecting off the downtown buildings,” she says. Her second favorite? “The bike trail from the Heights to UH downtown. In the spring, there are bluebonnets and other wildflowers, butterflies, and birds darting up and down in the sky,” she says, adding, “Shhh - it’s the best-kept secret photo op in the city.”
