METRO STAR is a service that saves money, reduces stress and helps you relax to and from work. STAR offers hundreds of scheduled routes in these counties: Harris, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Liberty, Montgomery and Waller.

STAR is a Cost-Effective Public Transit Option

Riders share the cost of the van, fuel, maintenance, parking and tolls. STAR vanpools are often less expensive than other public or private options since the vans are driven by one or more of the riders. One of the most efficient uses of public and private funding, STAR vanpools form quickly to serve locations other transit services cannot.

New Customized STAR Routes

New routes are forming all the time. We’ll work to create a route for you if we don’t have an existing one that matches your schedule. Know friends who work or live near you? Call us, and we’ll create a route. Vanpools use the extensive network of HOV and diamond lanes to reduce travel time.

STAR Public Financial Support

STAR receives funding from METRO, the Texas Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. This support goes toward discounting your route with monthly discounts which range from $150 to $450.

Employer STAR Support

Many employers in STAR’s service area provide funds as a transportation benefit to employees. Check with your employer to see if your company offers a transit and vanpool benefit. STAR encourages “copays” by employers.

STAR Vanpooling – the Safest Way to Go

Vanpooling is the safest form of public transit, says the National Transportation Safety Board, even safer than personal vehicle use.

Emergency Ride/Guaranteed Ride Home

If a qualified emergency occurs in midday or you unexpectedly need to work late, you can get a free ride home. Simply call Customer Service at 713-224-RIDE.
