METRO's popular free rides program for students is back for another summer season. From June 1 through Aug. 31, students can ride all METRO local, METRORapid, METRORail, curb2curb and Park & Ride services free!

Riders must use a valid Student METRO Q® Fare Card and tap for each ride; however, money is not deducted during the program period. Once the promotion ends, students ride at a 50 percent discount.

METRO's Director of Client Services, Karen Marshall, says the free rides program benefits many types of students. "Our free rides during the summer months aren't just for elementary, middle, and high school students," said Marshall. "Anyone who is attending a college or trade school also qualifies."

Marshall added that the program promotes accessibility and mobility for students. "With free transit rides, students can reach summer classes, internships, and jobs, which can help them stay engaged and productive throughout the summer break," she said. If you already have a Student METRO Q® Fare Card, you can use it.

If you need a card, there are several methods of applying for one.

  • Apply online.
  • Apply through the mail by calling 713-635-4000 to request a form.
  • Apply in person at a METRO RideStore.
