More than a Ride: How Three Couples Found Love on METRO
Just because Valentine’s Day is over doesn’t mean the love stories stop. Every day, METRO connects people to work, school and home and sometimes, to the person they didn’t know they were about to meet. From a chance encounter on a rail platform to friendships that turned into something more, these three couples are a reminder that meaningful connections can happen anywhere, even in the middle of a commute.
Holly & Charles
For Holly and Charles, a routine METRORail ride to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo turned into the start of something more. They happened to be on the same train headed to NRG Park and struck up a casual conversation, the kind you don’t expect to last beyond your stop. But theirs did. What started as small talk on the way to one of Houston’s biggest events became the start of a connections neither of them wanted to end.
“It was just a normal day on the train at first,” Holly said. “But one conversation turned into another, and before we knew it, we were looking forward to seeing each other again.”
That chance meeting on METRORail eventually led to a major milestone. The couple married in November 2025 and even found a way to weave METRO into their big day as a nod to where their story began.
“You never know who you might meet on your ride,” Charles added. “Sometimes it’s just about being open to the moment.”
Henry & Linzi Mares
What began as a confusing first ride on METRORail turned into the start of Henry and Linzi’s love story. New to Houston and unfamiliar with the system, Linzi found herself lost late at night at Wheeler Station. Henry noticed she seemed unsure and stopped to ask if she needed help. One conversation turned into hours of riding together, laughing, talking and getting to know each other as they made their way across the city.
“I was confused and exhausted on the platform when Henry came up to me and asked if I needed help,” Linzi said. “The first thing I noticed were his eyes. They felt familiar, like I had known him before.”
Those long rides across Houston quickly became some of Linzi’s favorite memories.
“I realized it was something more when I didn’t want the night to end,” Henry said.
Tania & Evvert Williams
Tania and Evvert first crossed paths in METRO driver training. What started as classmates navigating a new chapter quickly grew into something deeper. New to Texas, Evvert leaned on Tania for help getting settled. At the same time, Tania who did not have a car, needed transportation. Those everyday moments of support turned into conversation, shared laughter and a growing sense of trust.
“I was focused on learning and wasn’t even thinking about dating a coworker,” Tania said. “But when he offered to help me get to and from training, that’s when I realized this was more than just training.”
Some of their favorite memories are the quiet, ordinary ones: ending shifts near Buffalo Bayou, walking downtown and talking after long days on the job.
“We started hanging out and talking about things other than METRO,” Evvert shared. “That’s when I knew it was more than just a ride.”
More Than a Ride
Whether it’s helping a stranger find the right stop, offering a ride to a coworker, or striking up a conversation on the platform, these stories all started with a simple human connection. METRO is proud to be part of the everyday moments that bring people together. Sometimes in ways no one plans for, but many are grateful for.
