METRO Careers: Making Buses Look New Again

Whether you’re looking for a new job opportunity or just starting your career journey, the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas is always hiring!

METRO employs more than 4,000 people—from bus operators, mechanics, and utility workers to administrative staff in fields like engineering, customer service, finance and more. Many employees have been with the Authority for decades and say it’s provided well for them and their families.

Paint and Body Refinisher Isaac Chalambaga has spent most of his 28 years with METRO working at the Kashmere Bus Operating Facility.

“We handle all the heavy accidents,” said Chalambaga. “Each one of us has a duty of seeing if the bus can be repaired and how to repair it.”

Every repair job is different, which allows Chalambaga and his peers to support one another and collaborate to get the job done.

“We can be working here and one of my coworkers needs to put in a windshield, so we will stop what we are doing,” he said. “I am very proud of all of our team.”

METRO Connections interviewed Chalambaga and his colleague while they were working to reshape the frame of a bus to ensure the doors and windows fit. Some parts of his job can be challenging, but the sense of pride Chalambaga feels is rewarding.

“You really stretch your mind to get it done, to repair it,” said Chalambaga. “Once the bus leaves, we are pretty excited and want that bus just like it was. We make it look easy.”
