METRO Expands Safety Presence with New East End Substation

Community leaders, city officials and METRO leadership celebrated the grand opening of the newest MPD substation at East End.

A stronger safety presence is now part of the East End, and it’s worth celebrating.

With the opening of a new METRO Police Department substation along Harrisburg Boulevard, METRO is bringing officers closer to the community, improving response times and building stronger connections with riders.

This investment reflects METRONow, METRO’s systemwide commitment to strengthening safety, cleanliness, reliability and accessibility across the network, with a focus on the fundamentals that matter most to riders every day.

That commitment was on full display as community leaders, law enforcement partners and METRO officials gathered to mark the milestone and recognize what it means for the area.

“Safety continues to guide our decisions, and this investment reflects that ongoing commitment,” said METRO Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock. “We will be more visible, more integrated into the community and work every day alongside our community partners to support the safety of our riders and the neighborhoods we serve.”

24/7 Safety You Can Count On

Located at 7003 Harrisburg Blvd., the substation is open to the public and built to support both safety and trust. The Harrisburg substation operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, serving as a dedicated hub for METRO Police.

This new facility allows officers to stay closer to the corridor, improving response times and strengthening day-to-day operations.

With this added presence, riders can expect:

  • Dedicated officers assigned specifically to the area
  • Increased patrols and vehicles for rapid response
  • Real-time coordination with dispatch
  • Around-the-clock community assistance

It’s a targeted investment designed to make the system safer, more responsive, and more reliable.

The substation also creates space for stronger coordination across agencies. By opening the facility to law enforcement partners, METRO is making it easier to collaborate, share resources and respond quickly when it matters most.

“This shows you what you can do when you collaborate,” said City of Houston Mayor John Whitmire. “You don't worry about who's going to get the credit. You just get it done.”

A Place for the Community

Beyond operations, the Harrisburg substation is designed to serve as a direct connection point between METRO Police and the community.

Riders and residents can stop by to:

  • Report crimes that occur on the METRO system
  • Speak directly with MPD officers
  • Share concerns or suspicious activity on the METRO system
  • Get help navigating safety issues on the system

This investment reflects METRONow in action, building a safer, more reliable system for riders across the region.

The Harrisburg substation is a clear step forward in expanding police presence, improving response times, and strengthening safety where it matters most.
