One Line, Many Flavors: Exploring the METRORail Green Line

The METRORail Green Line travels through EaDo and Second Ward.

Houston’s East End is rich in culture, history, and flavor, and METRORail’s Green Line connects it all. Whether you’re craving a quick bite or a sit-down meal at a longtime local favorite, the Green Line puts some of the city’s best dining spots within easy reach.

Start Downtown

Kick off your culinary journey at Theater District where you are a short walk from downtown favorites like Brown Bag Deli on Texas Avenue and Travis Street, and order some delicious customized sandwiches. If you’re looking for a sweet treat, head on over to Cupcake and A Smile on Walker Street and Travis Street and sink your teeth into one of their amazing German Chocolate cupcakes and a variety of other flavors.

Next Stop: Central Station on Capitol

Looking for a great burger or maybe a gyro? Hop off at the Central Station on Capitol Street, and walk a short distance over to the Halal Guys at Capitol Street and Fannin Street for mouthwatering gyros, or Shake Shack at Capitol Street and Main Street for of their signature burgers and milkshakes. Take the METRORail Green and Purple Line to City Lights!

Next stop: Convention District

Hop back on the Green Line and head to the Convention District platform, near the George R. Brown Convention Center and Daikin Park, where downtown dining options abound. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty lunch or pregame dinner, this stop delivers plenty of choices within a few blocks of the rail. Upscale options include Grotto Downtown, where you can enjoy Southern Italian cuisine. Saltgrass Steakhouse inside the George R. Brown Convention Center is another solid choice if you are craving a juicy steak. Prefer to skip the Daikin Park crowds? Head to Biggio’s Sports Bar, where you can catch the game on multiple big screens while enjoying brisket mac and cheese, wings, or both.

Taste EaDoand Second Ward

If famous neighborhood favorites are on your mind, hop off the Coffee Plant/ Second Ward platform and walk a short distance over to Champ Burger on Roberts Street and Sampson Street. Known as the home of the original Texas-size steak sandwich, this local staple also serves a classic Champ Burger paired perfectly with a refreshing milkshake.

Explore the East End

Continue your foodie adventure toward Lockwood/Eastwood platform and treat yourself to something sweet or savory. Better yet, try both. Walk over to RefresqueriaTampico at Harrisburg Boulevard and Stiles Street, where the options feel endless. From snow cones, to frito pies, and aguas frescas, your sweet and savory cravings will be satisfied here.
