METRO Celebrates Juneteenth

METRO employees and Board Chair Sanjay Ramabhadran participate in a parade holding Juneteenth banner.

METRO employees celebrated Juneteenth at the annual Family Fun Day at Emancipation Park in Third Ward and the parade in Acres Homes.

Community events allow METRO to build relationships with residents and community partners while also spreading the word about upcoming projects and rider opportunities.

“We love the work Emancipation Park does, and we are always excited to partner with them and be able to showcase METRO services, projects and resources with the community,” said Stefani Farris, a METRO public engagement representative.

At the park, representatives spoke one-on-one with attendees and shared information about safety, free rides for students this summer, the METRORapid University Corridor project and more.

On June 19, METRO volunteers enthusiastically walked the length of the annual Juneteenth parade route, which runs from the Acres Homes Multi-Service Center to Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

“I truly enjoyed the optimism and energy the METRO employee volunteers brought. Even though the weather was super-hot, the volunteers were as bright as the sun,” said Senior Public Engagement Representative Luis Garcia.

METRO cooling buses were on hand at the Acres Homes Transit Center to provide relief to attendees as the temperature rose.
