Claim Your Child Care Benefit

Finding affordable and trustworthy child care can be a daunting task for working parents. METRO's new TOOTRiS child care benefit program, which became available in June, may help.

TOOTRiS is a user-friendly platform that connects parents with licensed and vetted child care providers in their area.  Families can quickly search for, vet, and enroll their children with high-quality providers.

There are more than 2,000 Houston-area child care centers in the Tootris network, and more than 185,000 across the country.

They offer a wide range of options covering nights and other non-standard hours, seven days a week. Full-time, part-time and drop-in care is available as well as after school programs and summer camps.

METRO employees are eligible to receive up to $200 per month for child care expenses.

METRO Contract Service Coordinator Michelle Nguyen wasted no time taking advantage of the program. She used TOOTRiS to enroll her son in a preschool summer program near her home. She said the experience was straightforward.

"After registering, I was contacted by TOOTRiS representative Tyler Garret who guided me throughout the process," said Nguyen. "He helped me set up a billing portal and liaised between me and the school. He also ensured that METRO's monthly financial contribution was credited to my account. It's been a great experience."

METRO Bus Operator Lequitta Brown is also a fan. The mother of three said the enrollment process was simple, and she is thankful for METRO's assistance.

"The enrollment process was very easy. I gave TOOTRiS the daycare’s name, phone number, and address, and they took care of the rest," said Brown. "The $200 a month from METRO is a big help for me."
