- Visit one of our RideStores, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1900 Main St. or 1001 Travis St.
- Provide only one of the following:
- Current school ID
- Report card
- Class schedule
Your Summer of Fun Pass is good from June 1 - Sept. 1, 2018.

Q: Summer of Fun Pass Group Registrations
A: Summer programs, schools and camps with 10 or more students can register their students for the Summer of Fun Pass. For more information on registering your group, email Client.Services@ridemetro.org or Karen Marshall at Karen.Marshall@ridemetro.org or call 713-739-4980.
Q: What is the Summer of Fun Pass?
A: The Summer of Fun Pass is a unique fare card offering students (K-12) FREE rides on all METRO light-rail, local bus and Park & Ride service from June 1, through Sept. 1, 2018.
Q: Where can I get my Summer of Fun Pass?
A: METRO offers three ways to get your Summer of Fun Pass:
- Apply online
- Apply through the mail by calling 713-635-4000 to request a form
- Apply in person at the METRO RideStores: 1900 Main St. or 1001Travis St.
Q: How do I use my Summer of Fun Pass?
A: Just tap your Summer of Fun Pass on the Q Box to pay for your trip. The Q Box is located at the front of the bus, next to the operator, and on all METRORail platforms.
Q: How does the Summer of Fun Pass compare to a regular Student METRO Q® Fare Card?
A: Your Summer of Fun Pass is a unique version of the Student METRO Q® Fare Card, and you use it the same way. The only difference is that your Summer of Fun Pass is programmed to provide FREE rides until Sept. 1, 2018. The card then reverts to a standard Student METRO Q® Fare Card, requiring you to pay for all future trips. You then load money on the card and ride for half price.
Q: Can I use the new 2018 Summer of Fun Pass as soon as I get it, even though it’s before June 1, 2018?
A: Yes, you can start using your new Summer of Fun Pass card right away. The Pass will operate just like the Student METRO Q® Fare Card with the 50% discount. You must add your own money to this new card until May 31, 2018. On June 1, 2018, the free contract on this card will activate automatically when you tap the card and no money will be deducted from your card until after September 1st. Any money you place on this card will remain on the card for your continued use when the card converts back to the regular discounted Student METRO Q® Fare Card on September 2, 2018.
Q: Can I just use my Summer of Fun Pass from last year (Summer 2017) since I really didn’t get to use it and still get free rides?
A: If the Summer of Fun Pass was never used, it is possible that you could re-use the card. To find out if the card was ever used, you can call 713-635-4000 and listen for the prompts for METRO Q Fare card. You will need to provide the representative with the METRO Q Fare card/Summer of Fun Pass serial number located on the back of the card to verify usage. If the card was previously used, you will need to bring the old Summer of Fun 2017 Pass to the METRO RideStore at 1900 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77002 to renew the Summer of Fun contract for June 1 to Sept. 1, 2018. It will be programmed for free rides until Sept. 1. After that, the Summer of Fun card will revert to a regular Student METRO Q Card and you will continue to ride at the student discount rate which is half price.
Q: Can I just use my regular Student METRO Q® Fare Card and still get free rides?
A: No. You must use a Summer of Fun Pass for free rides. It looks just like your regular student Q Card but is programmed for free rides until Sept. 1. After that, the Summer of Fun card converts to a regular Student METRO Q Card.
Q: What happens when the Summer of Fun Pass promotion ends?
A: Your Summer of Fun Pass will automatically become a regular Student METRO Q® Fare Card, requiring you to pay for all future trips. Students ride at a 50 percent discount.
Q: What if I lose my Summer of Fun Pass?
A: METRO requires all Summer of Fun Pass users to register their card before using it. If your pass is lost or stolen, METRO will provide one FREE replacement pass – all future replacements will require a fee of $10.
Q: Can I use my Summer of Fun Pass to pay for other riders?
A: No. Like the METRO Q® Fare Card, your Summer of Fun Pass can only pay one fare at a time. If you try to tap your card a second time, a red light will flash and the words “NO PASSBACK” will appear on screen. This lets you know that you have already paid your fare and your card will not be charged for tapping twice.
