METRO's Evacuee Relief Role

September 20, 2005

Houston METRO is offering support to refugees from Hurricane Katrina. METRO's current efforts include:

  • Transported approximately 150 of the remaining evacuees from the megashelters at Reliant Park and the George R. Brown Convention Center to Ellington Field for airlift to Ft. Chaffee, Ark.
  • Provided bus shuttles to the Disaster Recovery Center at I-610 and Wayside from off-site parking at 288 and Reed Road. Buses leave the lot every 15 minutes.
  • Established a METRO information booth at the DRC to provide maps, schedules and information on how to use the METRO transit system
