METRO's Evacuee Relief Role

Houston METRO is offering support to refugees from Hurricane Katrina. METRO's
current efforts includ
- METRO today began making available to evacuees seven-day passes for use on
the rail and bus transportation system. This action is taken in response to, and
in coordination with, requests from the Emergency Management Coordinators at the
George R. Brown Convention Center and Reliant Park and the Red Cross.
- A new METRO shuttle Route 96, from the George R. Brown Convention Center to
Reliant Park, began operating this morning at 7 a.m. The shuttle makes stops at
the City of Houston Health Department, Target, Wal-Mart and a Social Security
office. It runs every 45 minutes, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- METRO today transported 300 evacuees who are staying at apartments located
around the city to the GRB to register.
