METRORail Paid Fare Zones
All METRORail platforms are Paid Fare Zones (METRO
Board Resolution 2005-97). This means that anyone
standing on the platform must
have a valid fare item. Paid fare zones are common on non-gated platforms and
will help METRO police identify and ticket fare violators.
The violation is a Class
C Misdemeanor and is subject to a fine of up to $500.
Consumption of alcoholic
beverages is prohibited on the train platform, and as a Class C Misdemeanor, is
punishable by a fine of up to $500.
METRORail platforms are non-smoking areas in
accordance with the city of Houston Ordinance No. 2005-245.
