Welcome Aboard

Thank you for choosing to participate in METRO’s QuickRide program. As a newly registered user, we are confident that you will discover the benefits of this convenient money saving program the first time you use it. However, to better understand the program, we ask that you please review the following QuickRide information and procedures.

Using QuickRide

You should have already received a “Fee Tag” a small credit card size transponder, however if you have an active EZ Tag Transponder for the Harris County Toll Road Authority, it can be used in place of the ‘Fee Tag’.

When traveling along an active QuickRide HOV lane, your Fee Tag or EZ Tag will be scanned and the trip cost will be deducted from your QuickRide Account.

Your tag must be attached, using Velcro tabs, to the top center portion of your windshield.

In addition, you will receive a hang tag to be placed on the rear view mirror. A sticker will be mailed every month to be placed on the upper left hand of the hang tag. This is for  METRO police to identify you as a current member of the program.

Hours Of Operation

METRO’s QuickRide program operates Monday through Friday offering limited rush hour service along the Northwest Freeway (US 290) 6:45 A.M-8:00 A.M.

As always, your safety is our number one priority, and we reserve the right to suspend operation of the QuickRide program under the following conditions:

  • Hazardous conditions on the HOV lane caused by flooding, ice, debris or accidents.
  • Travel requirements dictate opening the HOV lane to general traffic.
  • Specified holidays or other unusual travel days.

QuickRide Fees

The cost of a one-way trip using QuickRide is just $2. This fee will be deducted from your account regardless of where you enter or exit an HOV lane. The only exception is when you are traveling with three or more occupants. In this case, simply remove your Fee Tag or EZ Tag from the windshield and safely store it in its static shield pouch. As a program participant, you are solely responsible for the removal of your tag. Failure to do so will result in your account being charged a $2 trip fee, despite the number of people traveling with you.

A monthly recurring fee  of $2.50 will also be charged to your account for using the QuickRide program.

For your convenience, METRO provides program participants with a monthly statement, detailing where and when your Fee Tag or EZ Tag was scanned. If you have a question or concern regarding our statement, please contact METRO Treasury Services at 713-739-6085

QuickRide Guidelines

Before you begin using METRO QuickRide, it is important that you understand the basics of the program. Failure to follow the program guidelines may result in fines of up to $200 per violation and your removal from the program. So, when driving along an active QuickRide HOV lane, know the rules that will keep you in good standing.

  • Use your Fee Tag or EZ Tag only when entering the HOV with a minimum of two people.
  • Use your Fee Tag or EZ Tag only during the QuickRide hours of operation.
  • Secure your Fee Tag or EZ Tag properly to the windshield, and remember to display your Hang Tag from the rear-view mirror.
  • Never travel on an active QuickRide HOV lane with an invalid QuickRide Fee Tag or EZ Tag.

Credit Card

If the balance on your card falls to $10.00, your credit card will be automatically charged $30 in order to bring it up to a minimum of $40. However, if the credit card provided is invalid, you must present another valid credit card number before the account balance reaches zero. In the event that another source of payment cannot be provided, your account could be terminated.

Terminating Your Account

If you wish to discontinue your QuickRide account, please contact METRO Treasury Services at 713- 739-6085. The QuickRide Fee Tag and Hang tag are the exclusive property of METRO and must be returned upon cancellation of your account. Once our tags have been returned, a representative will close out your account. METRO may charge you $10 for any lost or replaced hang tags and $25 for any lost or damaged Fee Tags.
