METRO to Extend  HOV / HOT Hours

HOV / HOT lanes will open seven days a week in a 90-day pilot program starting July 1.

On weekends, you can drive on the inbound HOV / HOT lanes to come into town. So if you want to catch a baseball game or or go to the zoo, make your trip easy by taking the HOV / HOT lane.

On weeknights, we're keeping the HOV / HOT lanes open three more hours. Instead of closing at 8 p.m., the lanes will be open till 11 p.m. If you need to work late in the office, or you stay in town for an event, get home quickly going outbound on our HOV / HOT lanes.

Single occupant drivers only pay $1 on weekends and evenings. Vehicles with with two or more occupants use the HOV / HOT lanes for free.

METRO has started a Pilot Program beginning July 1, 2015 until September 30, 2015 in which the hours of operation for all HOT lanes has been extended as indicated below:

  1. Week nights from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. in outbound direction Monday - Friday.
  2. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in inbound direction.

Using the METRO HOT Lanes

  1. Toll tags only – NO CASH
METRO HOT Lanes users can use a METRO HOT Lanes Toll Tag, Harris
County EZ TAG, TxDOT, TxTAG or the Dallas NTTA Toll Tag.
  2. Drive the METRO HOT Lanes
Drivers without passengers enter the METRO HOT Lane via existing HOV Lane entrance points. Entry and exit points vary by corridor. These are outlined on
    RideMETRO.org (link).
  3. Paying your toll
Drivers without passengers must have a toll tag. Signs at the entrance display the price for single-occupant vehicles to use METRO HOT Lanes.
  4. Declaring METRO HOT Lanes status
Clearly marked in each METRO HOT Lane are verification lanes where drivers must declare whether or not they have passengers. At these verification points, the HOV lane will briefly split to two lanes – all METRO HOT Lanes users must declare single-occupant status by moving to the lane marked "TOLL ONLY.” Vehicles driving through this lane will automatically be charged the METRO HOT Lanes toll – even if they have multiple passengers.
