Bike & Ride

Bike stored away on bus

Fusing together the flexibility of a two- and four-wheel ride with a transit system designed around your lifestyle, METRO's bike program gives you more options for your ride.

Bikes on Buses

METRO's local buses are equipped with easy-loading bike racks capable of carrying up to two bikes at a time.

Loading your bike onto the rack:

  1. Squeeze the handle up to release the latch and then fold down the bike rack.
  2. Lift your bike onto the rack. Be sure to place the front wheel in the designated slot.
  3. Raise the support arm up and over the tire, so that the hook rests at the highest point on the front wheel.

Unloading your bike from the rack:

  1. Raise the support arm off the tire and fold down into the secure position.
  2. Lift your bike out of the rack.
  3. Squeeze the handle and fold up the bike rack.
  4. Step away from the bus and move to the curb.

Bikes also can be taken aboard our commuter buses! Look for the icon on the baggage compartment door and lay your bike inside.

Bikes on Rail

Experience a seamless transition from our light-rail line directly to activities and employment centers. METRO has modified seating on our trains to safely allow bikes while providing additional areas for mobility-impaired patrons.

Bikes are allowed onboard METRORail any time, and can be secured at either the first or last door of every vehicle. Look for decals on each door for the proper entrance for you and your bike. Remember, there is a two-bike limit per train to ensure the best use of this valuable space.

Please note — for safety reasons, bus operators are not allowed to help load or unload bicycles from the buses, and METRO is not responsible for any damage to bikes.

Cycling in the City

Grab a bike and go! Rent a bicycle from the Houston B-cycle bike-sharing service and bring your wheels aboard any METRO vehicle.
