Capt. Vera Bumpers

MPD Celebrates New Command Staff

Fifteen METRO police officers are sporting higher ranks. The group was recently honored at a ceremony and is ready to step up its service to the community.

Among the newly-promoted officers: two captains, six lieutenants, and seven sergeants. One of the new captains is Vera Bumpers – the first woman to take the captain rank in MPD’s 30-year history.

“I feel blessed,” said Bumpers of her new rank. “I will continue to be a professional who leads by example and inspires others.”

“These promotions and the installation of an almost all new command staff represent a giant leap forward in our quest for continuous improvement at MPD,” said METRO Police Chief Victor Rodriguez, “MPD is committed to delivering first-class services to our stakeholders and customers.”

The 190 sworn MPD officers monitor the METRO transit system to ensure its buses, trains, Park & Ride lots and transit centers remain safe for customers and personnel. MPD is a fully accredited agency with the authority to enforce all laws.
