New Metro Launches Live Video Of Board Meetings

September 15, 2010

With a simple click of a mouse, the public will be able to watch the NEW METRO’s board meeting live on the agency’s Web site starting Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010.

“This is a very exciting step for the NEW METRO. We promised the NEW METRO would be more open and transparent,” said METRO Board Chairman Gilbert A. Garcia, CFA. “The launch of this Webcast is one of many steps we have implemented toward that goal. Now, all citizens can see the Board’s discussions and see how decisions are made.”

This will be the first time METRO streams live video of a board meeting. Earlier this week, the agency did a test run by streaming live video of its Finance Committee meeting.

All committee meetings, board meetings and public hearings held in METRO’s board room at 1900 Main, will be streamed on www.ridemetro.org, said METRO’s Acting President & CEO George Greanias.

“Not only will the public be able to watch the meetings live, they will be able to view them later because each will be archived on METRO’s Web site,” Greanias said.

METRO’s board meetings are currently televised on Comcast’s HTV Channel 16 at midnight and noon on Sundays, and on Comcast’s HCCTV Channel 17 at midnight and noon on Saturdays.
