METRO Connections 2009

Revealing the Renwick: Adding to the Solution

metro mattersJune 1 will be a busy day for METRO as it rolls out another new service in addition to the Quickline – the 32 Renwick Crosstown. And, though it’s not as quick as a bunny, its connectivity can’t be beat.

METRO is fulfilling its promise made in the 2003 referendum to add new bus routes to the system.  The 32 Renwick is one of the many new bus routes the agency is working to implement under the METRO Solutions plan.

What makes this route unique is its connectivity to other routes running throughout Houston. It offers a high level of flexibility, and in turn mobility.

The Renwick intersects with seven of METRO’s top 20 bus routes: 2 Bellaire, 4 Beechnut, 25 Richmond, 65 Bissonnet, 68 Brays Bayou, 81 Westheimer – Sharpstown and 82 Westheimer – West Oaks.

Riders on the Renwick will also be able to link up to the 6 Tanglewood, 9 Gulfton, 35 Fairview and 53 Briar Forest.

“METRO is excited about the potential of this route and confident of its success,” says Jim Archer, manager of ridership analysis and service evaluation. “Our goal is to provide more service to more places for more people.”

And the 32 Renwick will deliver. Archer says the route serves 111 multi-family residential developments, 69 retail/supermarket locations, 17 religious gathering places, 15 educational institutions, as well as medical and health care locations.

“Each of these locations is a spot that people want to reach and which they will soon be able to reach through public transit,” adds Archer.

The 7-mile route will be a crucial connector, serving the area between Braeswood and Woodway.

“This route provides new service to multiple places for multiple people.  We are eager to get started and can’t wait for June 1,” says Archer.
