METRO Connections 2009

Terra Cotta Warriors

ride the rail to minute maid parkIf you haven’t made it to the Houston Museum of Natural Science’s (HMNS) http://www.hmns.org/ exhibit of China’s terra cotta warriors, you still have time to see these ancient treasures. But, don’t wait too long. The exhibit ends October 18.

Touring with the exhibit was Chi Chang Zheng, an actor from Taiwan known to locals as “Jarry.” The actor ingeniously created an industrial plastic costume with an eerie resemblance to that of the clay warriors.

Unfortunately, Jarry is no longer entertaining crowds at the exhibit, but you can still catch him on our Web site http://www.ridemetro.org/AboutUs/MTTV/MTTV.aspx. As part of our partnership with HMNS, our METRO crew was able to shoot a promotional video with Jarry, encouraging the public to ride the rail to the exhibit.

It’s that easy – just board METRORail and get off at the Museum District Station exit. In a short walk, you’ll be able to travel back in time some 2,000 years.

The spectacular exhibit features 14 life-size clay warriors that were among the thousands buried in underground pits to protect the tomb of China’s First Emperor, Quin Shi Huang. There are more than 100 other well-preserved artifacts on display as well.

Remember to pick up Terra Cotta Warriors: Guardians of China’s First Emperor exhibit brochures found on our buses and trains, and clip the coupon inside for $10 off admission.
